The Carabinieri of Riposto have arrested two brothers, Massimo Greco, 38 years old, and Giuseppe Greco, 41 years old. Between July and September 2023, in Riposto, Acireale, and Stromboli, they would have committed theft of boats, boat engines, and fuel from boat owners, harbor operators, and the Coast Guard of Riposto. During the past summer, they attempted to steal both a jet ski, but were unable to do so due to the timely intervention of the owner, and a boat, which had already been dragged towards the port exit, but they were unable to take it away due to the passage of a patrol of the Army in reconnaissance. However, the field of action of the two brothers was not limited only to Riposto, as the Carabinieri also managed to charge them with the theft of a boat in the port of Acireale (later found in the garage of the two and returned to the owner) and the theft of a dinghy in Stromboli to the detriment of a French tourist.

As if that weren’t enough, emblematic was the theft of 250 liters of fuel from the Coast Guard patrol boat of Riposto. In this circumstance, the brothers, having reached the port in their car, with their fishing boat “Intrepid” would have approached the military patrol boat and, ignoring the cameras, after damaging the aft door, would have transferred the fuel directly into the tank of their boat with a pipe.

During the execution of the measure, which took place on February 19, premises and fishing boats belonging to the Greco brothers were searched, and a fishing net whose theft had been reported to the Carabinieri of Riposto was found. The two arrested individuals were taken to prison.
