Pet therapy in Palermo for young patients with pediatric oncology at Civico

The article explains the introduction of Pet therapy for young patients in the Pediatric Oncology unit of the Civico Hospital in Palermo. The initiative, in collaboration with Aias Partinico, is part of the project by Aslti, the Sicilian association against leukemia and childhood tumors, funded by the Ministry of Social Policies. Four dogs will be involved in the therapy, helping children become more self-aware, empathetic, and experience a caring relationship. The project aims to improve the quality of care for the patients and has been successfully implemented in other pediatric oncology units in Italy. The therapy will be carried out by a multidisciplinary team, including a veterinarian, and will last for 18 months with 78 sessions. The organizers are confident that the initiative will not only benefit the children but also their families.
