Paramedic from 118 attacked in Palermo: hospitalized after being headbutted

A 118 rescuer was attacked this morning and headbutted in Via Leonardo da Vinci in Palermo. The operator had been sent with an ambulance to assist a couple involved in a non-serious accident. When the paramedics arrived on the scene, a man first attacked the rescuer and then headbutted him, causing a wound that was treated in the plastic surgery department of the Civico hospital. Police officers intervened and are investigating. A new ambulance had to be sent to assist the injured healthcare worker, while the attacker fled. “Our rescuer was attacked by a street thug. Enough, we are tired of these aggressions,” said Fabio Genco, the director of the 118 central office in Western Sicily. “These incidents are no longer tolerable. The staff arrived in just 10 minutes to assist patients who were not serious. The code was green and they were not in danger of life. However, brutal aggression is not justifiable in any case. It had already happened at Zen a few weeks ago. Now again in another area of Palermo. Immediate measures are needed. We can’t wait any longer. Enough now.”
