Palermo shooting at Zen: Cassation confirms three convictions, one overturned

The Supreme Court confirmed four convictions for attempted murder with mafia methods of Giuseppe, Antonino and Fabrizio Colombo, father and sons, on the streets of Zen, in Palermo. It was March 23, 2021. The three miraculously survived. The judges of the Supreme Court confirmed the sentences in first and second instance.

Vincenzo and Letterio Maranzano 12 years, 5 months and 10 days each; Nicolò Cefali 10 years, Pietro Maranzano 11 years. The conviction of Giovanni Cefali (11 years and 4 months) was annulled with a referral for a new trial.

The defense attorney, Giovanni Castronovo, contested the accusation that he was a moral accomplice in the attempted murder. In Zen in 2021, there was a feud between the Colombos and the Maranzanos. They confronted each other in front of a bar. The Colombo family encountered the brothers Letterio and Pietro Maranzano outside a bar. They insulted Cefali and Pietro Maranzano intervened. A brawl broke out. The Maranzano brothers gathered with others in their father’s fruit and vegetable store. Then there was a shootout. Giuseppe and Antonino Colombo were injured, one in the legs, the other in the buttocks.
