Palermo, residents awakened by smoke and explosions

Residents in the area between Corso Tukory and Via Ernesto Basile in Palermo were awakened in the middle of the night by smoke and the smell of burning. They also heard explosions as the dumpsters were on fire. It is suspected that fireworks were used to start the fires, as similar incidents have occurred in the city in recent weeks. Residents are frustrated by the slow response of the firefighters, taking 30 minutes to arrive at the scene. This is the latest in a series of dumpster fires in the area, causing concern and anger among the residents.
