The approval of the budget forecast for the Municipality of Palermo is starting to produce its beneficial effects. In the sense that the available funds (though few) are finally being released and can be used. Thus, the municipal council for education and school buildings has been able to activate the framework agreement for the institutes of the first, second, third, and fourth districts, for a total value of 2 million euros. Not a sum that solves all the issues and problems of schools in the city, but certainly offers margins for intervention when there is a problem and action needs to be taken.
The implementing contract of the agreement, signed on Friday (August 4), allows for the start of maintenance and emergency works in the properties under the jurisdiction of the Municipality (elementary schools, preschools, and nurseries) located in the southern area of the city. The winning company, the temporary association of companies “Igc srl – stable consortium of designers and builders,” has activated a call center for urgent reports and requests for emergency intervention from school principals (such as the restoration of unsafe plaster and masonry, unclogging of sewers, and securing of environments following breakdowns in electrical or water-related parts of autoclaves, fire prevention systems, and heating systems).
The maintenance agreement concerns schools such as Arculeo, Cavallari, Maneri, Ingrassia, Don Milani, Nazario Sauro, Orestano, Ragusa Moleti, Rosolino Pilo, Emilio Salgari, Rita Borsellino, Rita Atria, Di Vittorio, Guttuso, Lombardo Radice, Mazzini, Mantegna-Bonanno (Borsellino branch), Maredolce, Oberdan, Quasimodo, Mattarella Bonagia, Montegrappa, Sanzio, Sauro, Franchetti, Nuccio, Verga, Perez Calcutta, Pestalozzi-Cavour, Pirandello-Borgo Ulivia, Padre Pino Puglisi, Scelsa, Scinà-Costa, Sperone-Pertini, Antonio Ugo, Vittorio Emanuele III – Capitano Basile, Cesareo, Don Milani, Gramsci, and the municipal preschools Altarello, Carollo, Di Matteo, Oberdan, and Palmerino. Finally, the municipal nurseries Braccio di Ferro, Maria Pia di Savoia, La Malfa, Allodola, Ermellino, Il Faro, Libellula, Pellicano, Drago, Maricò, and Pantera Rosa.
“The activation of the framework agreement adds to the novelty that we had already introduced, which is to directly provide resources to schools and connect them with companies for carrying out the works,” explains councilor Aristide Tamajo. “This has allowed, in the past months, to make 3.9 million euros available to school principals for extraordinary maintenance of facilities. I would like to add that in these weeks we are working to also start the framework agreement for the northern area,” concludes Tamajo, “which will provide an additional 2 million euros to schools in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth districts.”
