Palermo hosts Sicily Fashion Week promoting high fashion: “An opportunity for our businesses to grow”

Explain the following article in brief

In Palermo, the air of high fashion is starting to be felt. The Sicily Fashion Week is approaching and aims to elevate the island to the top of the sector’s events. Organized by Confartigianato Imprese Sicilia, the event features about twenty Sicilian haute couture companies for a week full of events starting from tomorrow, June 12th at the Spazio art gallery on via Mariano Stabile. The highlight will be the fashion show on Sunday, June 16th at Villa Tasca, with 19 companies showcasing their designs on sixteen models and four male models. The event aims to promote and develop the accessory and jewelry industry with the presence of foreign buyers from Spain, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Austria, and Uzbekistan. This is seen as an opportunity to increase exports for small and medium-sized enterprises in Sicily, as current data shows low contributions to the export market from the fashion sector in the region. Confartigianato Sicilia’s President, Daniele La Porta, highlighted the passion for beauty, artisanal skills, and economic development that unite the organization with the fashion sector. The event also involved various professionals in different economic sectors, including photographers, videographers, makeup artists, and hairstylists, as well as artisans in the food and beverage industry. The event was supported by Ice agency, which provided training to Sicilian companies on how to engage with international buyers. The partnership with the Municipality of Palermo was also crucial in promoting the event and positioning Sicily on a national and international level.
