Palermo hospitals plagued by copper theft: one wing at Civic Hospital left in the dark

Once again, thieves are targeting hospitals in Palermo. The Civico and the Policlinico have been hit, with the latter being targeted for the second time in a few weeks. At the Civico, copper cables were stolen from Pavilion 12, causing a long blackout and inconvenience for medical staff and patients. The carabinieri are investigating to find the responsible parties. Similarly, at the Policlinico, thieves made off with copper pipes from Pavilion 11, which houses the Orthopedics unit. There has been a growing security alarm at the Policlinico, with thefts occurring in the hospital parking lots as well as from patients and their visitors. In one instance, a patient in the Emergency Surgery ward had their personal belongings stolen while they were away for a test. The situation is causing concern and disruption to essential hospital operations.
