Palermo: Eurospin in Water of Corsairs robbed, hunt for knife-wielding thief

Explanation of the article:

A lone robber recently targeted the Eurospin supermarket in via Calogero Zucchetto, in the Acqua dei Corsari area of Palermo. The man, armed with a knife and with his face uncovered, entered the supermarket shortly before closing time yesterday evening, June 5. He threatened the employees with the weapon and forced them to hand over the money from the cash register.

The robber then fled with approximately one thousand euros. The employees promptly alerted the carabinieri, providing them with a detailed description of the suspect. The authorities are now conducting a search, analyzing the surveillance camera footage which captured the man in the act.

Surveillance videos could prove crucial for the investigation, as was the case a few months ago when police used footage from a robbery at the Todis supermarket on via Roccazzo to apprehend five individuals involved in various crimes such as theft, aggravated robbery, extortion, receiving stolen goods, illegal possession and carrying of weapons.

The gang had stolen 2,870 euros from the supermarket. Four individuals had entered the store, while a fifth acted as a lookout, driving a Lancia Y with a covered license plate. Through surveillance systems, the mobile squad was able to identify the perpetrators of the robbery, who were also under investigation for car theft and extortion using the “return horse” technique, where owners pay a sum to recover their vehicles.
