Palermo endocrinologist acquitted after 7 years

Carla Giordano, a retired professor and former director of the Endocrinology department at the Policlinico, was acquitted of charges of forgery and abuse of office. She had been accused of signing off on 204 therapeutic plans for the administration of somatropin, a drug used to promote children’s growth, when in reality it was done by a colleague. The court accepted the defense’s argument, stating that there was no evidence to support the accusation that Giordano did not personally carry out the tasks. The colleague who had signed the documents in her place was also acquitted of forgery and abuse of office, but the possibility of fraud remains pending.
