Palermo City Council acquires mafia-confiscated area

The municipal council of Palermo expressed last year, through a resolution, its interest in acquiring a plot of land at 70 via Papa Sergio I, used as a private parking lot, and transferred, by decree of the National Agency for seized and confiscated assets from organized crime, to the unavailable patrimony for institutional purposes. “A concrete commitment to legality and a great signal of attention for the neighborhoods of Arenella and Vergine Maria – where the property is located – by the administration that will see an important area returned to the citizens. The next step will be to requalify it to make it a fully functional parking area to meet the great need for public parking in the area,” says the municipal councilor of Brothers of Italy, Natale Puma. The assessor for confiscated assets and legality, Brigida Alaimo, thanks former councilors Carolina Varchi and Andrea Mineo “for the important work carried out in recent years. Despite the difficulties, this city confirms its commitment to legality and the common good with concrete acts. It will be my responsibility to finalize the procedure and support, also financially, the project to redevelop the parking area to return this property to the citizens as soon as possible, and in particular, to the residents of the neighborhoods Arenella and Vergine Maria.”
