Palermo CGIL approves hiring of agents, requests priority for internal staff.
The Fp Cgil Palermo intervenes on the hiring of 30 new municipal police officers for the city of Palermo, chosen from the rankings of other municipalities. “There are 170 municipal police officers at the municipal command of Palermo who are still waiting for full-time and are still at 30 hours. Yes to new hires, but first the right of priority must be respected, reserving 50 percent of positions for internal staff,” says Saverio Cipriano, responsible for local authorities for Fp Cgil Palermo. “The part-time contracts of the police officers who are serving in the municipal police should be increased to 36 hours within this year, but it has not been done yet. The municipality cannot hire from the outside if the internal contracts are not first transformed to 36 hours. We ask that the administration move within a hiring plan and with a reservation of positions, as provided by the regulations for hiring in public administrations.”
According to Cipriano, “what is happening we have already seen in the past for other professionals such as technicians and social workers, hired without respecting the rules provided by the hiring plans of public administrations. Now they could have issued a call for 30 municipal police officers and reserved 15 positions internally, giving career opportunities to the personnel already in service. Instead, they chose to select 30 temporary municipal police officers from the rankings of other municipalities, who will then have to be stabilized. While there is internal staff still working at 30 hours.”
