Palermo approves the consolidation of northeast zone of Monte Pellegrino
The works for the consolidation of the last lot of Monte Pellegrino have been awarded for an amount of five million and 440 thousand euros. This concerns zone “B”, the northeastern area of the promontory overlooking the city of Palermo, including the walls of Punta Priola and those facing the residential complex “Le Rocce”.
The outcome of the tender carried out by the Structure for the contrast to hydrogeological instability, led by the President of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani and directed by Salvo Lizzio, assigns the intervention to the temporary association of companies led by the Triveneto Rocciatori Consortium of Fonzaso, in the province of Belluno. Once again, the team of specialized workers will be tasked with identifying and removing unstable rocks, applying steel nets, and installing barriers to prevent possible collapses.
“I emphasize – says the governor – the speed with which we have also defined this last procedure, shortening the time and maintaining the commitment to complete the tender by the end of the year. Now, on all four sides, the safety works can start to protect people’s safety. It is, I repeat, a historic operation for which the Region, in synergy with the city administration, has not spared efforts and resources, as demonstrated by the environmental monitoring activity funded with one million euros to rigorously protect the ecosystem of the Reserve.”
The works on the walls cover the entire rocky face of the mountain that overlooks the capital of the Island – the so-called lots “A”, “B”, “C”, and “D” – and, in total, have been contracted for an amount of approximately 27 million euros.
