Over thirty kilos of drugs and two guns found in car: Palermo man arrested at Messina port

A fifty-year-old man from Palermo was arrested in Messina by the police for illegal possession of clandestine weapons and possession for drug trafficking purposes. Two guns and nearly 37 kilograms of hashish were seized. The man, driving a high-powered car, was stopped by the patrol officers on Viale Libertà, near the docks. The man, already known to the police, was in an uninsured car that was searched. Two guns without an external serial number and complete with magazines and cartridges were found hidden in the door compartment, stored in two plastic and vacuum-sealed packages, with ammunition in a third package. Hidden between the wheel arches and bumpers and inside both rear doors, 360 packets of approximately 100 grams each of hashish were found, totaling around 36.8 kilograms. The patrol officers arrested the fifty-year-old man in the act. He was transferred to Gazzi prison.

As part of the anti-drug operations, the same night, the patrol officers caught a twenty-six-year-old Sri Lankan man who, during a check in Via Consolare Pompea, was found to be in possession of a backpack containing around 100 grams of marijuana. Upon further investigation by the Immigration Office of the police station, it was discovered that the man was irregular, as his residence permit had expired, and an expulsion order was issued against him. While awaiting repatriation, the police chief decided on an alternative measure to detention in the Repatriation Center, which involved the withdrawal of his passport and the obligation to report to the police offices.
