Over a hundred Sicilian students involved in “School with energy!”

Explain in brief the following article:

From classroom lessons to journalistic activities, passing through laboratory activities on themes such as climate change, energy saving, and alternative sources of renewable energy. This is the path taken by 106 students from the “Filippo Traina” comprehensive institute in Vittoria of the ICS “Ottavio G. De Cruyllas” in Ramacca with “A scuola con energia!”, the educational campaign for the new generations, born from an idea of Legambiente, in collaboration with Renantis, an independent producer of renewable energy with operational plants in Italy and abroad.

Schools and teachers were involved in the educational path supported by Renantis and curated by Legambiente School and Training. Students, teachers, and families followed a sensitization path on topics of fundamental importance for the future of the planet and for the next generations. At the “Traina”, after three classroom meetings, students applied the knowledge learned through practical experiments such as building a homemade solar oven and analyzing the greenhouse effect created thanks to a glass case exposed to the sun. The children and their families transformed their classrooms into journalistic newsrooms to create a news report on the theme of renewable energies. The same themes were addressed by the students of the ICS “Ottavio G. De Cruyllas”, where topics such as the climate crisis and the use of renewable energy sources were discussed together with the issues related to the UN’s Agenda 2030 goals. Additionally, each of the three classes involved decided to take concrete action against climate change: planting three small trees in the school’s garden.

“We have brought themes such as the development of renewable energies and the fight against climate change to schools, which are difficult to assimilate for primary school children,” say Angelo Rinollo of Legambiente Ragusa and Eliana Seminara of Circolo Etneo Legambiente. “The students have received the messages and have demonstrated it with the work produced and with enthusiasm and interest.”
