Ortigia advances in Italian Cup, Palermo and Catania eliminated

In the bittersweet qualifying group for the Coppa Italia, only Ortigia from Group C advanced to the next round with a perfect record of three wins in three matches. Behind them is Rari Nantes Salerno with four points, comprising of one win, one draw, and one loss. Both teams, from Syracuse and Campania, respectively, will progress to the final round of eight. Telimar Palermo and Nuoto Catania were eliminated. Palermo drew 15-15 with Catania, lost 9-11 to Ortigia, and drew 11-11 with Salerno. Catania lost 14-12 to Campania and 18-6 to Syracuse. Ortigia-Salerno ended with a score of 12-4. Coach Stefano Piccardo of Ortigia expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, having achieved one of their season goals by reaching the Final Eight of the Coppa Italia. The team is focused on qualifying for the next round of the Euro Cup as well. However, improvements are needed in the quality of play, as there are times when the team fails to accelerate or slow down at the appropriate moments. The coach acknowledges that the team has little time to work on these details due to the frequent matches being played currently.
