No vote swapping, Petrosino Councilor Caradonna’s case archived
The investigating judge of Palermo has archived the investigation by the anti-mafia district directorate for political-mafioso vote buying, which in March 2023 also involved the president of the municipal council of Petrosino, Aldo Caradonna, who resigned as president last year but remained in office as a councilor.
On March 8 of last year, the investigation led to the arrests of the alleged mafia boss of Petrosino, Marco Buffa, and municipal councilor Michele Buffa. The two, who are not related, were sentenced to 15 years in prison each for political-mafia vote buying related to the 2022 municipal elections.
“After 13 months of being involved in the judicial investigation,” says Aldo Caradonna, “today I can finally tell you that the proceedings have been archived by the Palermo investigating judge without the need for a trial. I have never doubted the outcome of this investigation, as I am certain of the conduct I have always maintained in my life and of the competence of the judiciary and the relevant authorities.”
