New sustainable mobility service: car sharing inside Palermo port

The sustainable mobility also reaches the sea. Kinto share, a global brand of the Toyota group created in 2019, arrives at the port of Palermo, offering the first car sharing service. It will be available from the next April 18th at the cruise terminal stations, allowing users to rent the vehicles for the necessary time, even just for a few hours, through a dedicated app and designated parking spaces.

The fleet currently consists of five Toyota cars with 100% full hybrid technology, including two Toyota C-HR models, two Toyota Corolla models, and a Toyota Rav4. This service aims to make transportation more sustainable and environmentally friendly by reducing CO2 and NOx emissions during trips.

The port of Palermo joins Kinto’s innovative and sustainable mobility proposal, which is rapidly expanding throughout Italy. The service has been active as a public car sharing service in Venice since 2018 and is gradually expanding across the national territory. Currently, it has a fleet of 300 vehicles in 135 pickup stations in 13 regions, 32 provinces, and is operational in several cities and airports in Cagliari, Olbia, Venice, and Pescara.

“We are very happy to inaugurate the car sharing service that is about to start,” explains Vincent Van Acker, service design & user experience director. “The vehicles are available for anyone in the port area who needs a mobility service for a few hours or days. The service is self-service, with an app for booking, using, and ending the ride at the port.”

“We enthusiastically welcome Kinto’s proposal,” says Antonio Di Monte, general director of West Sicily Gate. “It represents the future of automotive and we are pleased to have been chosen as the starting point for this new way of transportation.”

Pasqualino Monti, president of the Western Sicily Port System Authority, says, “The port of Palermo participates in the evolution of sharing mobility by hosting the smart mobility brand of Toyota, Kinto. It offers a new, easy-to-use, and economically convenient service for cruise passengers and others. An innovative solution to make the port of Palermo more attractive and offer different sustainable alternatives for visiting the area.”

“The launch of Kinto Share at the port of Palermo reflects Kinto’s commitment to the territory and the importance of being present in strategic city points,” emphasizes Mauro Caruccio, CEO of Toyota Financial Services Italy and CEO and Chairman of Kinto Italy, specifically the port area of Palermo.
