Motorcyclist dies in accident on Palermo-Agrigento road, driver investigated for manslaughter

Fatal accident on the Palermo-Agrigento highway, near Bolognetta. The victim is a 58-year-old motorcyclist, Mario Romano (pictured from his Facebook profile). He died at the Civico Hospital in Palermo as a result of his injuries.

Romano was traveling on a Benelli motorcycle, which collided with a Dacia Duster driven by a 54-year-old man, who is now being investigated for vehicular manslaughter. The man’s wife and son were in the car as well, and they both escaped unharmed. For reasons still to be determined, the car and motorcycle collided, causing Romano to be thrown from the saddle and onto the road. Paramedics transported him to the hospital, where he died. The body was transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine for autopsy. The vehicles were seized.

The accident occurred a few days ago, but the news has only now come to light.
