Matteo Messina Denaro’s funeral car travels from Abruzzo to Sicily without insurance.

The funeral hearse that transported the body of Matteo Messina Denaro from L’Aquila to the cemetery of Castelvetrano had no insurance coverage, as the policy had expired. The vehicle, a Mercedes, departed from the mortuary of the Abruzzo hospital on Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM and arrived in the boss’s hometown the following morning at 8:15 AM. The car was heavily escorted by the police. The news of the lack of insurance was discovered through a check on the license plate of the vehicle, which became the focus of numerous photos upon the arrival of the coffin in Castelvetrano. The agency responsible for the hearse admitted it was an oversight and has already taken steps to rectify the situation. A previous incident occurred a month ago when a funeral hearse was stopped on the 640 state road, known as the “Writers’ Road,” while on its way to the mortuary of the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Agrigento to retrieve a body. The highway police discovered that it was traveling without insurance, which had also expired several months prior.
