Marsala, a concert-event by I Musicanti featuring Gregorio Caimi and Luana Rondinelli.

#Trapani
On the evening of August 8th at 7:30 pm, the “Pellegrino 1880” open-air theater will host a performance that represents the culmination of the work of the world music group founded in 2003 by maestro Gregorio Caimi, who is celebrating “Twenty” years this year. The title, “Twenty,” is not just a number, as it is the Rose of the Winds, with its generative power and evocative capacity, that represents the art of I Musicanti. The performance will be enriched by the participation of Luana Rondinelli. The actress, writer, and director will interpret four songs, one of which is dedicated to Rosa Balistreri. At the end, the artistic and cultural movement of the city of Marsala will present an award to a distinguished personality from the Marsala area.

“Twenty” that play and tell stories from the southern world, “Twenty” that speak and sing in Sicilian, “Twenty” that know their origin and identity, and yet they are “Twenty” curious individuals who explore distant lands in search of ancient and exotic music, of human stories that can touch the heart, of rhythms that make it beat in our “island” where the sea is a cradle of dreams and thoughts, an exit that anticipates freedom, a horizon that closely resembles a home.

On Tuesday, August 8th, at 7:30 pm, the “Pellegrino 1880” open-air theater, located in the ancient Salina Genna, will host “TWENTY,” the concert-event by I Musicanti di Gregorio Caimi with the participation of the actress Luana Rondinelli.

This is the fifth event included in the “’a Scurata cunti e canti al calar del Sole” Memorial Enrico Russo series, an event conceived and organized by the artistic and cultural movement of the city of Marsala – M.A.C. in the theater located within the Stagnone nature reserve.

This is an eagerly awaited event as it represents the culmination of the work of the group founded in 2003 by maestro Gregorio Caimi, who is celebrating “Twenty” years this year. The title, “Twenty,” is not just a number, as it is the Rose of the Winds, with its generative power and evocative capacity, that represents the art of “I Musicanti” by Gregorio Caimi on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the group, which has made ethnic, social, and rhythmic research its vocation and poetry. On August 8th, their album “Twenty” will be released: a collection of songs under the Tuscan label EmdabliumEm, which will also be available on vinyl.

“A testa mi rici” (2003); “Assumma Assumma” (2005); “…pi nun perdiri lu cuntu…” (a tribute to Rosa Balistreri – 2007); “Arsura” (2011); “Genti” (2014); “Fimmini e omini” – single (2015), “Pietre di Sicilia” – tribute to poet Renzino Barbera (2016), “Terra Madre” – single (2018), “Lamento pi la morte di Turiddu Carnivali” (2020), “Guarda avanti” (2021), “Sciara prima c’agghiorna” (2022) are just some of the albums produced during this twenty years of research and experimentation.

The concert will feature I Musicanti in a complete formation: Dario Li Voti: drums and programming; Alessio Cordaro: electric bass; Gianluca Pantaleo: double bass; Gregorio Caimi: guitars; Natale Montalto: accordion; Ceo Toscano: cello; Maria Luisa Pala: flutes; Irene Sciacca: vocals; Debora Messina: vocals; and also Antonio La Rosa: sound engineer and Antonino Manlio Di Bella: sound engineer – with the participation of actress Luana Rondinelli – to offer – in the open-air theater, now known as the “Island of Art” – the song of an evolution where stylistic choices and influences have marked an artistic journey that begins ethnic and becomes universal, without ever losing its Mediterranean identity.

Luana Rondinelli will bring four songs to the stage by the waterside – one of which is a monologue dedicated to Rosa Balistreri, recently performed by Donatella Finocchiaro in the Greek theater of Siracusa – giving voice to the art in the Sicilian language that distinguishes her poetic and that of I Musicanti, where the music and the semantics of a land resonate as one, reaching emotions and feelings that taste like sun, salt, pain, civil passion, and heartfelt love.

“At the end of the evening,” anticipates Gregorio Caimi, artistic director of the series, “the artistic and cultural movement will present an award to a Marsala intellectual who has distinguished themselves nationally and beyond. The MAC, in fact, aims to enhance beauty, merit, and culture in our territory, and awarding examples of excellence is one way to do so.”
