Mario Pafumi wins international award for journalism and social commitment.

International award for social commitment in journalism to Mario Pafumi, journalist and correspondent for thirty years of the Giornale di Sicilia from some towns in the province of Catania. The award was presented at the XXIX edition of the Livatino-Saetta-Costa Memorial.

Here is the motivation for the award: “Dr. Mario Pafumi, teacher, journalist, historical correspondent of the Giornale di Sicilia in Palermo, has been a steady collaborator since the early 90s. He is a passionate investigator of facts, particularly in the field of crime news. He has always stood out for the seriousness, professionalism, and conceptual rigor with which he deals with information and seeks the truth, which he reconstructs with personal investigative intuition, through a measured and respectful narrative of events and people. Endowed with deep human and social sensitivity, he has devoted his activity to promoting the territory. For his professional commitment, dedication to the education of students, and his free and passionate search for truth and legality, he is awarded the Livatino-Saetta-Costa Prize”.

Pafumi, 67 years old, is a primary school teacher in Giarre, where he was born and has always worked. The ceremony took place in the auditorium of the scientific high school Leonardo in Giarre and the award was presented by Nicola Petruzzelli, director of the juvenile correctional facility in Bari and president of the National Association of Prison Directors.

“I dedicate this award to my wife Agata and my children Floriana, Claudio Trovato, Carlo Tancredi – a moved Pafumi said. – I thank my principal Betty Scilipoti not only for allowing me to receive the award but also for being present at the ceremony”.
