Man killed by firework tube at Militello in Val di Catania patron saint celebration

A tragedy occurred during a fireworks display in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Militello, Italy. A metal compressor tube, similar to a gas cylinder, flew towards the crowd, hitting a 65-year-old husband and wife. The husband, Franco Carrera, was killed, while his wife was injured. The incident took place during the festival for the Santissimo Salvatore patron saint. Another family and a child were also taken to the hospital for treatment. Many people suffered abrasions and were hit by pieces of wood and metal. There was panic in the square when rumors of a gas leak spread. The incident, captured by numerous spectators and shared on social media, occurred after the patron saint’s procession. The Caltagirone Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation, assigning the Carabinieri to gather evidence, including footage from a television broadcaster that was covering the event live.
