Magnitude 3.1 Earthquake on Mount Etna, Clearly Felt in Some Towns

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was recorded last night at 00:12 on Mount Etna. The event was strongly felt by the population in several nearby towns. The hypocenter was located by the Catania Etna Observatory at a depth of 2.8 kilometers, 1.6 kilometers north of Zafferana Etnea. This was followed by a series of at least 14 smaller earthquakes, ranging from magnitudes 1.0 to 1.7, in the same area between Zafferana Etnea and Linera. The smallest earthquake was recorded at 04:22. No reports of damage to property or injuries have been made.
