Magistrates appeal 12-year sentence for Ruggirello: Prosecution sought 20 years

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Palermo has filed an appeal against the ruling of the Trapani court, which sentenced former parliamentarian Paolo Ruggirello to 12 years in prison for external participation in a mafia association. The prosecution had requested 20 years for mafia association. The appeal also includes the convictions of former provincial councilor Vito Mannina and Alessandro Manuguerra, former municipal councilor of Erice, who were respectively sentenced to one year and eight months and one year for electoral corruption. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, however, is seeking convictions for mafia electoral corruption.
