Lentini landfill set to reopen tomorrow, but waste crisis may take days to resolve

There is a movement towards the reopening of the mechanical and biological treatment (Tmb) plant for mixed waste at the Sicula Trasporti landfill, which is under judicial management, in the Coda volpe district. This emerged from a meeting on the waste emergency held at Palazzo Minoriti in Catania, the seat of the Prefecture. ARPA technicians have carried out an inspection of the facility and will report to the Region on the situation. The initiative could lead to the unlocking of the Tmb plant, but in any case, it will take several days to return to normality in waste collection and disposal.

It is not excluded that there may be a new measure from the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, or one that complements the one already issued last night. At the meeting at Palazzo Minoriti, the prefect, Maria Carmela Librizzi, the acting prosecutor Agata Santonocito, the regional Energy assessor, Roberto Di Mauro, the mayors of Catania, Enrico Trantino, of Acireale, Roberto Barbagallo, and of Misterbianco, Marco Corsaro, as well as the governor’s chief of staff and regional technicians, were present.
