Lampedusa’s former mayor De Rubeis is free and writes to the people: “I am back”

Bernardino De Rubeis, the former mayor of Lampedusa and Linosa, has been released after being sentenced to 6 years and 9 months in prison for two cases of extortion. The deputy prosecutor general at the Court of Appeals in Palermo has signed the order to immediately revoke the convict’s arrest, as the Agrigento Surveillance Office granted him 45 days of early release. De Rubeis, who had been under house arrest since April 2020 due to health reasons, plans to return to serving and defending his people. He expressed gratitude towards the judiciary and the prison population for their respect and support.
