Lactalis to invest 4.6 million in Sicily over next two years

Lactalis Italia, the leading agri-food company in terms of presence and coverage in Italy, is consolidating its strategic role in Sicily, where it has two production plants in Catania and Ragusa. The company plans to invest 4.6 million euros on the island for the years 2024-2025.

The information emerged from a study conducted by The European house – Ambrosettii and presented at the Palazzo della Cultura in Catania. The Catania plant, founded in 1954 and acquired by Parmalat in 2000, produces approximately 77,000 tons of product annually, mainly UHT milk and cream. The Ragusa plant, established in 1991 and acquired by Parmalat in 2000, specializes in the production of dairy products such as mozzarella, ricotta, and scamorza, processing about 6,000 tons of product each year.

Lactalis employs 226 direct employees in Sicily, accounting for 4.2% of the group’s total workforce in Italy. Over the past three years, direct employment in the region has grown by 3.7%.

“In an increasingly unstable economic context,” stated Giovanni Pomella, CEO of the group in Italy, “Lactalis continues to support the growth of local production chains. Our goal is to invest responsibly in Sicily, creating value for the territory and the community where our plants are located. We are committed to strengthening collaboration with local producers, promoting innovation and sustainability throughout the production chain. We aim to be a reliable partner for Sicilian businesses and families, contributing to the creation of opportunities for inclusive and sustainable economic development.”
