Kenyan domination at Palermo Half Marathon: Kimutai wins men’s race, Omosa claims victory for women.
Pure entertainment and great sports performances at the Palermo half marathon, dominated by Kenyan athletes in both the men’s and women’s categories. Leading from start to finish, from Mondello to the city center, Joseph Kimeli Kimutai won the XI edition of the Palermo International Half Marathon-Trofeo Nuova Sport Bmw in record time. The 32-year-old Kenyan athlete of the Dinamo Running team crossed the finish line with arms raised in 1:02:23, improving the previous race record by 6 seconds, set by another Kenyan (Joel Maina Mwangi) in 2019.
Among the women, the 29-year-old Kenyan Teresiah Kwamboka Omosa won the race in 1:15:04, not far from the race record set in 2019 by Anna Incerti with a time of 1:14:09.
The male winner Kimutai expressed his happiness for breaking the record and mentioned the challenging but fascinating course. He was followed by Amaniel Freedom of Eritrea in second place and Bonface Fundi of Kenya in third place. In the women’s race, Omosa expressed her satisfaction with the victory and stated she would strive for the record again next year.
In the 10 Km-Trofeo Energia Italia race, Hungarian Agex Edit Filo won among women, while Moroccan-born Italian Saharan Zouhir won the men’s category. The president of Agex, Nando Sorbello, expressed his satisfaction with the event and highlighted the support from institutions and private sponsors.
Overall, the event was a success with over 1,301 athletes participating, including 500 foreigners. Additionally, a car was donated to the Female Mission of Hope and Charity thanks to donations and support from the archdiocese and Nuova Sport Car.
