Joe Barone says emotional goodbye in Pozzallo: tears and sorrow from his hometown.

Pozzallo bids farewell to Joe Barone, general manager of Fiorentina who died suddenly, a native of the town in the province of Ragusa. The body arrived in Sicily last night and this morning the wake was set up and opened in the town where he was born. The municipality set up the exhibition of the coffin in the council hall. There is a large purple Fiorentina banner on the facade of the building in honor of Joe Barone, flags are at half-mast as a sign of mourning.

Joe Barone’s family, including his wife and children, are all present in Pozzallo. They were the ones to lead the brief funeral procession that accompanied the coffin to the town hall. Many people from Pozzallo wanted to pay tribute to Barone and many have asked the municipal administration to dedicate the town’s stadium to Joe Barone.

Pozzallo and Italy mourn a man of great football relevance – said the mayor of Pozzallo Roberto Ammatuna – Citizen of the world, native son of Pozzallo, who has always maintained a privileged relationship with it. On behalf of myself and the entire Pozzallo community, we join in the grief of his beloved family who today pick up Joe’s legacy rich in human, moral, and Christian values, to continue his work.

The wake will be open all day on Saturday, March 23, at 10 am, the funeral procession will take place starting from the town hall. The arrival at the Mother Church Madonna del Rosario where a religious service will be held. The coffin will then remain at Joe Barone’s brother’s house until the day it is transferred to America.

Even Andrea Belotti, a player for Fiorentina and former player for Palermo, closely connected to the Sicilian capital (his wife, Giorgia Duro, he met in Sicily), in his social profiles, he also wanted to remember Joe Barone, with a photo showing a handshake.
