Ispica: 50 orange trees of former deputy Gennuso cut down

They entered a citrus grove and cut fifty orange trees. The damage caused would have amounted to about eighty thousand euros. The unknown perpetrators targeted the agricultural company of former regional deputy Pippo Gennuso, which has various properties and activities between Ispica and Rosolini. The incident was reported yesterday morning to the carabinieri station in Ispica and is said to have occurred the previous night in the San Basilio district, causing damage to the grove which was already in an advanced state of production with its five years of life. The victim reported to the military that the damage was caused by unknown individuals.

From his account, the military have started investigations to ascertain the exact dynamics of the serious criminal act and the extent of the damage. The investigative work is delicate because the affected area is not under video surveillance. It is important to understand how the unknown individuals acted to cut down the trees, and whether it was an act of intimidation or simply vandalism. This is not the first time the former regional lawmaker has reported damages to his company. A year ago, three thousand olive trees in his twenty-hectare olive grove in Noto were damaged when a flock entered the land and knocked down the bushes. Investigations have already begun to assess the damage in the San Basilio district and shed light on the authors of this serious criminal act.
