Iconic women from Madonna to Barbie, from Raffaella Carrà to Carla Fracci: the exhibit by Sicilian artist Domenico Pellegrino in Milan

Explain to me briefly the following article

Ten pop icons for ten stories, for ten female voices that give a soul to the light installations. But at the center there are always women, the “Iconic Women” of the Sicilian artist Domenico Pellegrino, an ironic challenge to those who think that bodies can exist without heads, but also heads without a soul. This year too, during the Design Week, Lombardy Region creates a true citadel of creativity and hosts designers and artists. Among installations, exhibitions and performances in Piazza Città di Lombardia from today (April 15) until the 26th, live the “Iconic Women” by Domenico Pellegrino. Today the opening ceremony will be attended by the President of Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana and the Tourism Councillor, Barbara Mazzali.

Domenico Pellegrino, known as the artist of light, believes in the synthesis between heritage and future. With his artistic work he magnifies Sicily and its traditions. Born in Mazzarino, in the province of Caltanissetta, in 1974, but it is in Palermo, where he lives and works, that he was trained, attending the artistic high school and the Academy of Fine Arts. The training and passion for art began in his childhood, watching his painter father and measuring himself over time with brushes, canvas, acrylics, clay and clay.

What is exhibited in Milan is a unique project declined in different languages in comparison. The faces of eight famous (and very recognizable) women are exhibited (from Raffaella Carrà to Frida Kahlo and Madonna, from Marilyn to Moira Orfei, from Queen Elizabeth to Barbie, to the iconic Carla Fracci) who become wooden installations with LED lights, asking for a body for ten stories (“It’s all appearances by Eleonora Lombardo) interpreted by ten Sicilian women from the world of entertainment, who offer a personal and authentic voice to the figures they represent, thus enriching the artist’s narrative. A multimedia project that stitches together music, visions, and contemporary art. “I thank the artists who have wanted to contribute with their narrative skills to make the Design Week great. I greatly appreciated Pellegrino at the Bit and today I am happy to host him,” said President Fontana.

“Among the many iconic women – comments Barbara Mazzali, Councilor for Tourism, Fashion and Territorial Marketing of Lombardy Region – there is an extraordinary Lombard personality, Carla Fracci. I thank Domenico who recently gave a luminous Lombardy to our region.”

They lent their voices (in alphabetical order) Stefania Auci, Giusina Battaglia, Stefania Blandeburgo, Emma Dante, Marianna Di Martino, Donatella Finocchiaro, Eleonora Lombardo, Stefania Petyx, Barbara Tabita, in addition to the young Anna Sofia Pellegrino and the children of the Theater Ditirammu. “It’s all appearances is a challenge to those who read bodies without heads, to those who think that women’s bodies are made of flesh and bone, a sexual display to be taken and possessed,” writes Eleonora Lombardo.

And if it concerns different media, here are also ten vinyl records – the musical selection was curated by Donatella Sollima, artistic director of the Sicilian Association of Friends of Music – that amplify the sensory experience of the exhibition, a soundtrack that accompanies and integrates the stories. From Giovanni Sollima to Rita Marcotulli, from Bach to Thelonious Monk, each piece has been carefully chosen, linking it to each protagonist and adding an extra touch to the project.
