Husband defends himself in the murder of Amatuzzo in Marinella di Selinunte: “She stabbed herself”

Ex-fisherman Ernesto Favara, 64, is currently on trial for the murder of his wife Maria Amatuzzo, 29, who was found stabbed to death in their home in Marinella di Selinunte on December 24, 2022. Favara claims that Maria actually stabbed herself during an argument they were having about their children, and that he tried to take the knife away from her hence his fingerprints on it.

Prosecutor Stefania Tredici argues that Favara lured Maria to the garage with a pretext and then attacked her with a total of 28 stab wounds. Maria had left her husband a few months prior and was living with another man at the time. The prosecution is also alleging aggravating factors including trivial reasons, premeditation, and cruelty.

During the trial, one of the civil party’s lawyers questioned how Maria could have stabbed herself in the back. Favara was arrested at the scene with the bloody knife in hand.
