Hundreds bid farewell to Marisa Leo, the bishop, in Salemi: “Your light will still guide us”

The funeral of Marisa Leo, a victim of femicide, was held at the crowded Salemi church, with a large screen outside provided by the Colomba Bianca winery where Marisa worked. The bishop of the Mazara del Vallo Diocese, Monsignor Angelo Giurdanella, officiated the funeral, expressing his sorrow and emphasizing the importance of love in the face of tragedy. He reassured the grieving family and friends that Marisa’s death was not God’s will, and that her love for life would continue in the afterlife. The bishop called on the community to come together and prevent such tragedies from happening again. Marisa’s brother and the president of Donne del Vino also spoke at the funeral, paying tribute to her and announcing a project in her honor. The funeral ended with applause as Marisa’s casket left the church for her final journey to the cemetery.
