The photos of a poor dog tied up and burned alive are extremely heartbreaking. For this reason, we will not publish them. This cruel act was discovered this morning in Santa Margherita Belice, in the province of Agrigento. The loyal animal was found along a secondary road, completely charred, with its hind legs tied with a wire. The Oasis of Ohana – Chiara’s Furry Friends, an organization founded by Chiara Calasanzio, which for ten years has been rescuing and welcoming abandoned, stray, and abused dogs in Santa Margherita Belice, has spread the news. However, the dynamics and motivations behind this act are still unclear. Chiara Calasanzio, founder of the non-profit organization, writes, “Instead of welcoming to Sicily, I would say welcome to hell. The scene was heart-wrenching, and this pure soul must have experienced tremendous agony. I don’t know if it was the atrocious behavior of some kids inspired by A Clockwork Orange or someone seeking revenge against the dog. I hope that the police promptly inform us, as we have full trust in them and are certain they will investigate tirelessly because this is the murder of an innocent dog. I fear that these acts are a result of how stray animals are managed in this municipality and in the southern regions in general. All institutions must take responsibility for this murder.”
