Garibaldi Hospital in Catania, a red bench dedicated to the murdered nurse.
On the occasion of the World Day Against Violence Against Women, the Arnas Garibaldi of Catania inaugurated a red bench inside the Garibaldi-Centro hospital, dedicated to Concetta Barbagallo, a professional nurse killed in 2007, and organized a meeting entitled “Violence against women has no boundaries…but often has the keys to the house.” The meeting, organized with the sponsorship of the Regional Assembly and the Onda Foundation, was attended by numerous specialists in the field, including doctors, sociologists, psychologists, unionists, and some associations in the sector. The extraordinary commissioner of Arnas Garibaldi, Fabrizio De Nicola, accompanied by the scientific president of the event, Anna Colombo, responsible for the Risk Management and Health Education Unit of Arnas Garibaldi, welcomed the guests. He stated, “The problem of violence against women needs to be addressed through targeted and precise measures, but it is also necessary to keep the flame of attention alive through discussions like the ones today. Garibaldi has been at the forefront of this path for many years now.” In 2015, Arnas Garibaldi became part of the special ministerial project Codice Rosa Bianca, followed by the implementation of a close collaboration between hospital emergency departments, public prosecutors, law enforcement, and volunteer associations. This led to the identification of company representatives for the Codice Rosa, enabling the activation of a task force of doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers whenever a suspected case of violence presents itself at the emergency department. Additionally, a “Pink Room” was made available to women, equipped with necessary comfort and privacy protection measures.
