Funeral of former police officer held in Furci Siculo after being killed by a friend over alleged offense

The funeral of former agent Giuseppe Catania, who was killed by his friend Gaetano Nucifora on October 3rd, took place in the church of Madonna del Rosario in Furci Siculo. Hundreds of people attended the ceremony. The mayor of the town declared a day of mourning and the flags were lowered to half-mast or displayed with a black ribbon. Nucifora reportedly encountered Catania on the street and, blinded by anger over a perceived offense, decided to go home, retrieve a rifle, and return to the seafront to shoot him. The arrest of Nucifora has been validated by the judge, and he has reiterated his responsibility for the crime, providing the same account of events to the police when he turned himself in.
