Former mayor Stefano Gullo dies on his 100th birthday in Ribera.

Stefano Gullo, former mayor of Ribera, has passed away on the day of his 100th birthday. He had been hospitalized for several days prior to his death. The entire community had been preparing to celebrate Gullo’s milestone age, but all events were canceled after the sad news. Gullo was the longest-serving mayor in Ribera’s political history. He was an attorney and was elected as the second mayor in the republican era in 1952. Throughout the years, he had also been involved in cultural activities, particularly in promoting the figure of Francesco Crispi, which he dedicated a book to titled “Universo Mafia”. Just a few weeks ago, Gullo made a public appearance in Ribera at a debate that followed the ceremony for the donation of a painting by the local artist Giuseppe Cardella, depicting Accursio Miraglia, a union leader who was murdered by the mafia. The current mayor, Matteo Ruvolo, announced that a commemorative event for Gullo is being planned, which will involve all former mayors of Ribera.
