Fear on the fast lane: Car drives in the wrong direction for several kilometers on Agrigento-Caltanissetta highway.
An oncoming car caused panic on the fast lane 640, near the Racalmuto junction. The driver traveled for several kilometers in the opposite direction, risking a collision with other vehicles traveling on the road. The driver mistakenly entered the wrong lane, turning into a real danger.
He was driving a Fiat Panda that other drivers couldn’t stop in any way: those who crossed paths with him tried to warn him by flashing their lights or honking, but to no avail. The car continued towards Favara, still on the wrong lane, also risking being hit by heavy vehicles. Dozens of reports arrived within minutes at the emergency number 112. Many indicated the presence of the Fiat Panda traveling in the wrong direction.
Therefore, it was necessary for the intervention of the carabinieri who, based on the reports, went in search of the vehicle to stop it. A few months ago, a similar incident occurred in the Palermo area, on the A/29 motorway leading to Mazara del Vallo. A 55-year-old woman driving a Renault Clio traveled more than ten kilometers in the wrong direction. In this case too, many drivers made calls when they saw the car coming in the opposite direction on the motorway.
The highway police officers managed to stop her and the woman was fined. The incident was reported to the prefecture for the revocation of her license. The woman was returning home after a night shift. She didn’t realize she had entered the motorway in the wrong direction towards Trapani. The first calls came when the driver was spotted in the tunnel area. She was stopped near Palermo airport.
