Farewell to Enna’s oldest woman: Piazza Armerina, grandmother Iolanda passed away at 108

The oldest woman in the Enna area has passed away. Iolanda Cagni was 108 years old and lived in Piazza Armerina, where she had become a true reference point for the entire community. Known for her smile, wisdom, and stories, she had become everyone’s grandmother: she was loved by many and today, March 12th, she is remembered with great affection.

First of all, Mayor Nino Cammarata, who announced the sad news on social media: “A woman of ancient lineage, belonging to one of the oldest and most prestigious families in the city, she lived a good part of her life alongside her husband, Professor Liborio Capizzi, also an unforgettable figure of great dignity – writes the mayor -. They shared passions and interests together and lived in the ancestral home on Via Capizzi, which takes its name from this family. Deeply religious, until a few years ago she could be seen at Mass at the church of San Giuseppe, a church to which the Capizzi-Cagni family had always been very attached.”

The mayor continues: “Her life was marked by love for her family, cordiality in relationships, and respect for civil and religious rules, which can be an example to all of us, especially the younger generations. To her sons Enzo, Alberto, and Enrico and their respective families, heartfelt condolences from the entire administration.”

There are many messages from fellow citizens and all those who had known her: “I had the fortune of her friendship and that of Professor Liborio for many years – writes Giuseppe -. A sweet, cordial, amiable, affectionate person, always with a smile on her lips. Talking with her and her husband filled the heart with serenity and joy. Rest in peace. To my friend Enzo and his brothers, sincere condolences.” Carlo writes: “A very elegant and kind lady of good taste and refinement. Until a few years ago she would come to the market to buy ricotta and cheese from me. Condolences to the family first and to the city as well, as it has lost a piece of history and a great example.” And more: “I will never forget her sweet face – adds Salvina – her smile and her courteous and kind manner towards me. In her, I found a grandmother.”
