The Excelsior ferry departed today at 10.45 am from Genoa bound for Palermo with 252 passengers and over 300 vehicles on board including commercial vehicles and cars. The ferry remained in port overnight for routine checks following a minimal fire incident promptly detected by the ship’s safety devices late yesterday evening and promptly extinguished by the onboard personnel according to containment procedures in line with operational standards. Passengers were promptly assisted and constantly kept informed.
Yesterday evening, water and snacks were offered free of charge and today’s meals and tomorrow’s breakfast will also be offered free of charge. The company expresses its regret for the inconvenience experienced and assures that every form of protection and refund as prescribed by regulations will be provided. The ship is expected to arrive in Palermo in the early morning of tomorrow.
