Endless summer in Mondello: crowded beach, swimmers choose September dives

The residents of Palermo continue to fill the beach of Mondello. The temperatures have slightly dropped, allowing the many bathers who have reached the seaside village to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach without suffering too much from the heat. Some take the opportunity to go for a run, others stroll along the pedestrian area, while some set up their umbrellas and spread their beach towels, perhaps for the last time this season. In the water, children play with a classic orange ball, while in the distance, others equipped with masks and goggles enjoy a long and relaxing swim in the crystal-clear sea. The familiar sound of street vendors walking along the shore searching for potential buyers is constant, offering a variety of merchandise, from beach towels to colorful wooden necklaces and crocodile-shaped inflatables. And of course, the “pollanca” and iced tea are essential. In short, nothing seems to have changed, in fact, it seems even better. The gentle breeze and temperatures around 25 degrees create the perfect climate to enjoy the sea, leaving behind the long waves of heat that this year in Palermo reached a record-breaking 47 degrees, the highest temperature ever recorded. However, for many, this is not the last Sunday at the beach. They believe that in Sicily, the fantastic climate usually allows for a return to Mondello for some sun and a swim until early October. In fact, they consider this the ideal moment as this summer the heat has been an issue, and these temperatures are refreshing, making these days even more enjoyable. So, for them, summer has just begun.
