Elderly man beaten on Panoramica road in Messina, identified and reported a minor

In the context of investigations direct and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Juvenile Court of Messina, the Carabinieri have reported a minor as a serious suspect in the assault on an elderly man on the afternoon of April 7 on the Panoramica dello Stretto. The victim immediately identified a boy, likely a minor, as the perpetrator of the act that occurred following a dispute resulting from dangerous maneuvers two mopeds had performed while trying to pass the car driven by the elderly man.

The eighty-year-old, in the car with his grandson, was violently attacked and beaten for a reprimand, with such violence that he lost consciousness. Only the intervention of those who had witnessed the scene had chased away the minors and assisted the victim, ensuring his care by medical personnel.

The investigative activity has allowed to reconstruct the events through the acquisition and analysis of some video surveillance systems in addition to collecting witness statements. It emerged that the assault on the elderly man was preceded by a maneuver he himself had made while driving his car, endangering the occupants of one of the mopeds.

After several hundred meters, the two vehicles then stopped their race by pulling over to the side of the road, where an animated discussion ensued between the driver and the occupants of the moped. The confrontation escalated into the assault documented by images acquired by the investigators, showing the moped passenger repeatedly striking the elderly man in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, before fleeing.

From the analysis of the video surveillance systems, as well as from collected testimonies, the responsibility lies solely with the assailant, while the other minors involved, all fully identified, had no role in the assault on the victim.
