Elderly man accused of sexually abusing a child in San Biagio Platani acquitted and released

A retired man accused of sexual abuse towards a minor in San Biagio Platani has been acquitted and released from prison. He was initially sentenced to seven years in prison by the court of Agrigento, but has now been fully acquitted by the judges of the third criminal section of the Court of Appeal of Palermo due to lack of evidence. As a result of the sentence, the seventy-two-year-old man, defended by lawyer Francesco Carrubba, has been released from prison.

The events date back to 2021 when he was arrested by the mobile team of Agrigento following a report by a psychologist. He was accused of sexual violence and sexual acts towards a ten-year-old girl.

The investigations suggested that the retired man may have paid the family of the girl in exchange for sexual favors. However, these allegations have been overturned by the recent sentence. At the time, the girl had been removed from her family’s care and placed in a protected facility. Even the girl’s father had been on trial and was acquitted in February of last year because the incident did not occur.
