Eighty robotic Mako prosthetic surgeries at Ingrassia hospital in Palermo

The article describes the results of 7 months of activity of the Mako system, a high-tech robotic platform for prosthetic surgery used by the Orthopedics and Traumatology unit of Ingrassia Hospital in Palermo. The system has allowed for 80 prosthetic interventions, including 35 hip replacements, 44 knee replacements, and one medial unicompartmental prosthesis. The director of the unit highlighted the positive outcomes of the system, which include faster recovery of ambulation, reduced hospital stay, and a decrease in the need for blood transfusions. The robotic arm, vision module, and guidance module of the system work together to accurately reproduce the surgeon’s preoperative plan on the patient.
