Drug market in neighborhood square, raid leads to ten arrests in Trapani

Ten people, six men and four women, have been arrested by the Trapani Police following a precautionary order issued by the examining magistrate upon request of the Palermo DDA as part of an investigation into an alleged criminal association engaged in drug trafficking in the popular San Giuliano neighborhood. Seven suspects have been placed in custody and three under house arrest. Two other suspects have been subjected to a residence obligation for the same facts.

At the center of the investigation by the Mobile Team of the Police Headquarters is the activity of a family nucleus, rooted in the neighborhood, dedicated to retail drug trafficking of cocaine, crack, and hashish. The head of the family, a 40-year-old Trapanese with specific antecedents, is considered by investigators to be the leader and promoter of the organization. The man, along with his ex-wife, reportedly used first two houses and a garage as drug-dealing places and then an entire square in the neighborhood.

Also arrested was a son of the couple, who at the time of the events was a minor, and who would have packaged and sold drug doses. The group had created a sort of “fortress” with buildings that had reinforced doors and windows, protected by iron bars, and that would have been guarded 24 hours a day by a network of pushers. There were cameras on the perimeter walls to check the identity of the customers.

After the first anti-drug operations by the Police, the group allegedly entrusted the supply of drugs to three women considered “unsuspected”, leaving only the amount intended for daily sales at the drug-dealing places. The three women, placed under house arrest, in December 2020, were arrested by the Trapani Mobile Team, as they were found in possession of 366 grams of cocaine. The investigation also identified the suppliers of the drugs: three Trapanese, two of whom were in custody in prison, and the third under a residence obligation.

During the investigations, approximately 530 grams of cocaine and crack, and over 120 grams of hashish were seized. According to an approximate estimate, the volume of illegal business was around 2,000 euros per day.
