Chemotherapy suspended at Ragusa hospital, 50 patients left without treatment

New emergency at the Maria Paternò Arezzo Hospital in Ragusa, where chemotherapy sessions for cancer patients have been suspended, leaving about 50 patients without treatment. The suspension is due to the inability of the hospital pharmacy to prepare the necessary cytotoxic drugs, due to a shortage of staff.

The hospital has confirmed that the lack of resources, already known to the health management and the control of the provincial health company, has worsened a situation in which the demand for oncological care has tripled compared to 2020. Waiting times for therapies, now up to 25 days, are at serious risk of compromising patients’ health. The situation, defined as unsustainable, has prompted patients to publicly denounce the collapse of the local healthcare system, calling for urgent intervention from the general management.
