Last night, a woman who had lost consciousness was trapped in her car after a road accident in the Picanello district of Catania. She was rescued by carabinieri from the Investigative Unit of the provincial command. The impact against a building’s perimeter wall triggered the airbag, causing it to explode. The two officers found the woman unconscious on the steering wheel, surrounded by fumes from the airbag system. Using a metal tool from their patrol car, they broke the rear window of the car, reaching the victim and providing initial assistance. With the help of medical personnel who arrived in an ambulance, the woman eventually regained consciousness and was stabilized.
