Caltanissetta faces water shortage, mayor closes schools after three malfunctions in a few days

Insufficient water distribution in Caltanissetta, so Mayor Roberto Gambino has issued an ordinance suspending classes in schools of all levels for tomorrow. The decision was made following a technical meeting that requested and obtained approval from the Prefecture of Caltanissetta.

Today, there was no water in the urban area and the water trucks of the company Caltaqua, which provides distribution services throughout the province of Caltanissetta, were engaged in water supply in sensitive areas, namely the Sant’Elia hospital, the prison facility, and the migrant repatriation center in Pian del Lago.

The company Siciliacque has guaranteed that distribution will take place during the night starting from the lower zone. The water main that brings water from Ancipa to Caltanissetta has broken down three times in the past few days, resulting in severe consequences for the population.

Following the meeting at the Prefecture, Mayor Gambino expressed dissatisfaction with the vague and incomplete responses provided by Siciliacque regarding the current state of the water main, the reasons for three breakdowns in a few days, and the identification of any liabilities.
Hence the request to President of the Region Renato Schifani for “a new water main that brings drinking water from the dams to the faucets of our homes, a modern, safe conduit capable of coping with the long droughts that await us. We nisseni thirst for justice and fairness.”
