Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto: Employee’s Salary Increase Leads to Conviction of Two Entrepreneurs for Extortion

#Messina
The Court of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, in a single composition with Anna Elisa Murabito, has sentenced the former owner of Aicon, a yacht company in Giammoro, to 3 years and 4 months of imprisonment. His sister was also sentenced. The judge declared them both disqualified from public office for five years and ordered them to pay a fine of 600 euros, as well as court costs. They are also jointly liable for compensation to the injured party. The judge also ordered them to reimburse the legal expenses of the civil party. The motivations of the sentence will be deposited within 90 days. The Siclari brothers were charged with the crime of forcing an employee to accept a salary reduction through threats of dismissal. The case dates back approximately 10 years when the employee filed a complaint against Aicon Yachts Spa. Following the investigation, the prosecutor determined that the Siclari sent a formal notice of infringement to the employee, stating that he did not sufficiently control and coordinate the work of external companies and the Aicon staff. The employee was forced to accept a reduced salary under the threat of dismissal.
